"GO WILD" ROTAFEST Palmerston North, May 2018
What a magnificant weekend!
Thank you District Governer Mitchell Brown and Rotary Takaro for an awesome weekend.

Starting on Friday we checked out the WildBase Recovery in the heart of Victoria Esplanade, Palmerston North.  Six years ago WildBase Recovery was just a twinkle in the eye of Scott Bruce of Rotary Milson.  Together with Rodney Wong of Rotary Awapuni WildBase Recovery is nearly complete ready to take in it's first wild bird occupants.  WildBase Recovery is a rehabilitation centre for native, wild birds.  Working in partnership with Massey University's, state of the art, Wildlife Centre, native birds that are bought to the Massey University for hospitalisation will then be cared and rehabilitated for at the WildBase Recovery. In the future it could provide New Zealanders with a rare chance to see endangered native birds recovering from treatment before their return to the wild. It will be a unique centre for Aotearoa

Despite the gloomy weather in the Manawatu, the Roger Fox Big Band, with Mark Williams and Wild Blue Yonder certainly entertained the crowds that had showed up for the Festival of Rotary in the Palmerston North Square.  The food trucks were there with yummy options for lunch while people checked out the projects that Rotary Clubs of District 9940 were involved with.

We also had our Rotary International Youth Exchange (RYE) students attend Rotafest with three rebound students (NZ students).

and of course we enjoyed the evening dinner and entertainment.  Congradulations to Gordon who won back the cup for winning the golf competition on the Friday morning.

Next year District Conference "Light My Fire" will be held 17-19 May 2019 at War Memorial Centre, Whanaganui.  Hosted by District Governer Marion Johnston
